Lauren made her goal!
6/21/2014

Lauren Mettler's Kickstarter

If you've grown one of our Grow-it-Yourself kits, watched one of our demonstration videos, enjoyed our music video One Sunday Morning, or enjoyed the whimsical artistry of our company logo, you have experienced something of Lauren Mettler's creativity.

Now Lauren has set out to make her mark as a singer-songwriter. She put together a kickstarter page to raise funds to get her recordings professionally produced. The campaign runs for just one more day. I highly recommend taking a look - and a listen. There's a video she made about the project, a characteristically lucid, straightforward write-up, and full-length samples of her songs.

She has been a popular performer locally for some time, and now, through her kickstarter site, you can get to know and support this truly gifted young artist as she sets out to make her mark on the wider world. Having known Lauren for several years now, I can testify not only to her sweet nature but to her emerging genius as a songwriter and performer. What you can hear of hers now is beautiful. What she will do in the years to come I cannot begin to imagine. I confess I persist in underestimating her, and she persistently astonishes me.

The campaign clock stops at 10 PM Friday, 6/20, and the way kickstarter works, it's all or nothing: if she doesn't make her goal, she doesn't get anything. She offers inventive and gracious rewards for even the smallest donations, even one with music and one of our mushroom kits, so it's really a no-lose proposition. Please visit, and consider making a pledge.

She's from Here

From Sherburne, Lauren's a native Central New Yorker, like her parents and grandparents. For those of you who don't know where Central New York is, as this picture suggests, it's precisely half way between The Sound of Music and Oklahoma. Every summer day here we dress up pretty and take our instruments out into the fields to make joyful noise. Honest. (Gorgeous photo by Victor Petryakov).

She's behind This

Another of Lauren's creations, our logo features a portrait of our flagship Hantana Phoenix oyster mushroom, our mycelial man mascot, and an upside-down worldview where mushrooms matter most. Click here to view a larger version of the image.

She's Out There

Lauren's manic alter ego Daphne holds nothing back in our series of videos about growing mushrooms with our kits. We keep getting the nicest comments from our customers about these videos. I got a call from a woman in Oregon who had a question about something, but clearly she wanted to comment on the videos: "They are hilarious" she said, "I love that girl."

Thanks for visiting!

Sunday, 28 October 2012 14:31

Saturday's Syracuse Post-Standard featured a nice article about The Imaginary Farmer entitled Mushroom magic: Kits let gardeners grow fungi in the kitchen, leading with the excellent notion that as the outdoor growing season ends, gardeners try "soothing their itchy green thumbs by growing mushrooms indoors." Take a look!

A spectacular oyster mushroom flush at the Circa Farmers' Market in Cazenovia as the Syracuse Post-Standard's Photo of the day on January 13.

The photographer was standing in front of this amazing mushroom taking pictures of people shopping.
I said I couldn't believe he could stand there with his camera without photographing the mushroom.
So he did.

Just when you least expect it ...

The guys at bikemanforu.com are documenting their experience with one of our Grow-it-Yourself mushroom kits on YouTube. We here at TIF are watching closely. As of today, I hear their bag is fully colonized with Elm Oyster mycelium and showing pools of fluid, so should be close to forming pinheads.
